Badminton – Cross Country

Kilpatrick Knight – CLEAR!

KK produced an incredible clear round in his first CCI4* around one of the biggest, boldest and toughest 4* cross country tracks we’ve seen in a long time.

The first 12 or 14 fences were big big fences and KK just kept pulling it out, digging deep and got the job done.  With KK starting to feel the pressure and impact of such a relentless and punishing track Austin had to go to plan B.  With KK starting to feel it Austin used all of his experience to just give him a bit of a chance and took a few alternatives, giving KK an extra helping hand where he could.

“I even gave him a bloody walk” Austin told one of the press team after the round.

Between the two of them Austin and KK pulled it all out, with KK learning a lot from his first 4* experience and you never know maybe in 12 months time he’ll be quite competitive at Badminton.  The were in 26th position after cross country.

With the Europeans looming there were a lot of questions about team selections.  This weekend all thoughts were on the job in hand, giving this relatively young horse the best chance and the best opportunity we could.  It could have gone one way or another here and hopefully KK will grow in confidence from the experience.
